Wisconsin RB Brown to transfer to Pitt (AP)

Running back Zach Brown will transfer from Wisconsin to Pitt, and will be immediately eligible because he's already earned his bachelor's degree and played only three seasons for the Badgers, the Big East school announced on Thursday. A native of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., the 5-foot-10, 220-pound Brown rushed for 1,152 yards and 11 touchdowns on 240 carries at Wisconsin.

North Texas has dismissed leading receiver Darius Carey from the team. Mean Green coach Dan McCarney says Carey didn't live up to the standards and expectations that have been set for the program. McCarney, who became UNT's coach after last season, didn't elaborate and had no further comment.

QB Tyler Gabbert joins Louisville (AP)

Louisville coach Charlie Strong says former Missouri quarterback Tyler Gabbert is now a member of his football team. Strong tweeted that he is "excited to have Tyler Gabbert officially join our football program." Louisville spokesman Rocco Gasparro said Thursday that Gabbert will be eligible in 2012 and have three years of eligibility remaining.

Ex-Arkansas PG Peterson transfers to FSU (AP)

Former Arkansas point guard Jeff Peterson is transferring to Florida State to play his senior season. Peterson asked for and was granted his release from the Razorbacks earlier this month. He's eligible to play immediately for the Seminoles because he graduated from Arkansas in May. Peterson spent two seasons at Arkansas, sitting out the first year after transferring from Iowa.

Shelby spent last season as the Southern Illinois recruiting coordinator, and she will help Pirates coach Anne Donovan in that area. Irish WR Floyd gets 1 year of probation (AP)

Suspended Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd arrives at court in South Bend, Ind., Wednesday June 29, 2011. Floyd was sentenced to a year of probation and can't drive for 90 days after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge. A St. Joseph County magistrate gave Floyd a one-year prison sentence that was suspended. He also ordered that after Floyd gets his license back, he will have a device installed in his car for 180 days that will prevent it from starting if his blood-alcohol level is too high.

Suspended Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd pleaded guilty Wednesday to misdemeanor drunken driving and was sentenced to a year of probation. Whether he plays next season remains unclear. St. Joseph County Magistrate Brian Steinke gave Floyd a one-year jail sentence that was suspended as part of a plea agreement.

Haywood asks for probe into Pitt firing (AP)

Michael Haywood, who was fired on Jan. 1, 16 days after being hired as Pitt's football coach, has asked the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission and other state and federal agencies to investigate his termination by the university, his lawyer said on Tuesday. Fiesta wants 31 pols to explain free tix (AP)

The Fiesta Bowl has asked 31 Arizona politicians who received free trips or game tickets to explain how they benefited the tax-exempt group, and it said it may ask them to repay the costs if the expenditures can't be justified. Alabama suspends 2, S Green leaves team (AP)

Alabama coach Nick Saban has indefinitely suspended two players. Saban said Tuesday that redshirt freshman wide receiver Keiwone Malone and sophomore defensive lineman Darrington Sentimore violated unspecified team rules and policy. Sentimore played in 11 games last season, making nine tackles and recording four quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.

Drugs caused Alabama OL Douglas' death (AP)

A Florida medical examiner's report says that University of Alabama football player Aaron Douglas died as a result of multiple drugs that were found in his system. The report from the Nassau County medical examiner's office found that the death of the 21-year-old offensive lineman was an accident and caused by three drugs found in his system: Methadone, Diazepam and Carisoprodol.

Mississippi State pitcher Devin Jones will forgo his final year of eligibility at Mississippi State and sign with the Baltimore Orioles. The former Michigan State star was pulled over for speeding by Mount Morris Township, Mich., Police on Wednesday night June 22, 2011. Cleaves' license was suspended in February of 2011 for having too many points. He was assessed a $125 responsibility fee, which hadn't been paid as of Thursday morning according to secretary of state records.

Mateen Cleaves has been cited for driving with a suspended license. The former Michigan State star was pulled over for speeding by Mount Morris Township Police on Wednesday night, the day his license was suspended. Cleaves' license was suspended because he didn't pay a responsibility fee for having too many points in February.

Ex-Washington G Overton charged, in jail (AP)

Overton, a former Washington basketball player, is scheduled for a bail hearing Friday, June 17, 2011, on his arrest Thursday on suspicion of promoting prostitution. Police say undercover officers contacted an 18-year-old woman in May about prostitution in an area of Kent that's known for the activity. The woman told them her boyfriend, Overton, brought her to the area and told her to perform acts of prostitution. Police say the woman added she'd been told what to charge and had given a portion of the money to Overton.

Former Washington backup point guard Venoy Overton was charged Friday in King County Superior Court with promoting prostitution, a felony punishable by up to five years in jail and a $10,000 fine. Overton is being held in jail on $150,000 bail and will be arraigned June 30, the prosecutor's office said.

Kansas has added forward Kevin Young, a 6-foot-8 swingman who will be expected to contribute right away in the Jayhawks' rebuilding project. Coach Bill Self said Friday that Young will be a junior who can play next season. Self said he expects Young, of Perris, Calif., to be "an impact player" for the Jayhawks.

Ex-Arkansas F Bryant joins E. Michigan (AP)

Former Arkansas forward Glenn Bryant has transferred to Eastern Michigan. Eastern Michigan coach Rob Murphy announced the move this week. Bryant says he wanted to play closer to home after 61 games over two season at Arkansas, where he averaged 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds. Bryant is from Detroit, about 40 miles from the Ypsilanti campus.

Hicks' 7th-inning single helps key Virginia win (AP)

New CWS stadium gets good reviews (AP)

TD Ameritrade Park drew high marks from North Carolina and Vanderbilt fans. The $131 million stadium replaces Rosenblatt Stadium, which hosted the College World Series from 1950-2010. Chris Nash, a 28-year-old Vanderbilt graduate from Chicago, made his first trip to Omaha and was impressed with the new venue but wished he had seen his alma mater play once at Rosenblatt.

Video shows part of saggy-pants incident (AP)

A University of New Mexico football player who was arrested after wearing saggy pants on a plane at the San Francisco airport insists in a video showing part of his exchange with authorities that his pants were up and he had done nothing wrong. The San Francisco Chronicle obtained the video and a link to it was on the newspaper's website Saturday.

Nevada WR seriously wounded in shooting (AP)

Nevada starting wide receiver Brandon Wimberly was shot and seriously wounded early Saturday in a fight between a group of his football teammates and another group of men. Police say the 22-year-old Wimberly was shot once in the abdomen when he approached the other men in downtown Reno as they fled in a car.

A University of New Mexico football player who was arrested after wearing saggy pants onto a plane at the San Francisco airport says he felt the flight crew was harassing him. DeShon Marman told television station KGO Thursday that he pulled his pants up, as a boarding agent had requested, when he got to his seat Wednesday.

Offense down, but coaches OK with new bats (AP)

Offensive numbers are down in college baseball because of new bat standards that went into effect this season. According to NCAA Division I statistics through the end of the regular season May 22, the overall team batting average dropped from .305 last season to .282. Home runs were nearly cut in half, from 0.93 a game to 0.52, and scoring was down from 7.01 runs a game to 5.62.

UNC releases public records after ruling (AP)

North Carolina has released documents showing a group of Tar Heel football players accumulated more than $13,000 in parking citations over a 31/2-year period. The school released the documents Thursday, a day after the state Court of Appeals denied the school's request to delay the release of those records pending an appeal.
